The Habitworks team is trained in clinical psychology, engineering, and interactive design. We’ve used our unique integration of behavioral science and technology to create industry-leading results in smoking cessation and power conservation, and now are focused on improving the health of patients with chronic illnesses.

Paul Cole

Paul is a psychologist with over 20 years of experience in product research, design and development with a significant track record of product innovation by applying behavioral science concepts to product development. Most recently Paul was the VP of Consumer Products at Tendril, responsible for product planning, research, design and content development. More

Paul Cole, Psy.D. - Co-Founder & CEO
Paul is a psychologist with over 20 years of experience in product research, design and development with a significant track record of product innovation by applying behavioral science concepts to product development. Most recently Paul was the VP of Consumer Products at Tendril, responsible for product planning, research, design and content development. Prior to Tendril, Paul was the CEO and co-founder of GroundedPower, a company that developed wireless energy monitoring technology and behavioral-based web applications. Paul’s earlier experience includes: research/product management at Lotus Development Corp., visiting research scientist at MIT and CEO/Founder of Vista Associates, web-based, educational technology startup. Paul holds a Doctorate from Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology.

Demetrie is a designer, developer and researcher with more than sixteen years of experience across a wide range of industries. Demetrie has spent four years developing behavior modification applications for energy efficiency as the Director of Product Design at GroundedPower and Tendril. More

Demetrie Tyler - Co-Founder/Design
Demetrie is a designer, developer and researcher with more than sixteen years of experience across a wide range of industries. Demetrie has spent four years developing behavior modification applications for energy efficiency as the Director of Product Design at GroundedPower and Tendril. From 2007 to 2009 he held research positions at Microsoft Research and the Interactive Telecommunications Program at the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University where his work focused on the intersection of design and psychology in emerging communication platforms. His research at ITP was included in the critically acclaimed exhibition “Design and the Elastic Mind” at MoMA in New York. Demetrie holds a BA in History and a BFA in Studio Art from the University of California at Santa Cruz and a Master’s degree from NYU’s Interactive Telecommunications Program.

Brad Johnson

Brad Johnson - Software Development
Brad is an experienced software engineer specializing in web applications. He is a regular instructor at RailsSchool in San Francisco and serves on the Board of Fred Finch Youth Center in Oakland. Prior to joining HabitWorks, Brad was Lead Engineer at DonorStack and a co-founder of a local nonprofit organization. Brad holds a bachelors in political science from Ohio State University.

Judith is a psychologist with experience in field research, evaluation, adult learning and is particularly interested in the ways that technology can be used to shape new behaviors with patients and consumers as well as create new economies of scale for organizations seeking to engage people in a new way. Judith is a psychologist with experience in field research, evaluation, adult learning and is particularly interested in the ways that technology can be used to shape new behaviors with patients and consumers as well as create new economies of scale for organizations seeking to engage people in a new way. She was a consultant with GroundedPower with a focus on issues of technology and behavior change. Previously Judith managed pilot implementations and field research in an education technology company. She has provided consultation and training in the healthcare and technology sectors. Judith did her undergraduate work at the University of Illinois, holds a Master’s degree from Boston University and a Doctorate from the Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology.

Emily is a researcher and engineer with more than ten years of experience doing environmental, energy and behavioral research. Emily has spent four years developing behavior modification applications as the Research and Content Manager at GroundedPower and Tendril. Prior to GroundedPower, she researched the oxidation rates of chemical markers used for pollution modeling. She has peer-reviewed articles in several respected publications, including Science. Emily holds a Masters and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University.

Mike Bukhin - Advisor
Mike has more than fifteen years experience as an engineer, researcher, manager, and entrepreneur. Mike has extensive leadership experience taking behavior change software from initial concept to highly successful product lines with a focus on education, healthcare, and energy efficiency. As a Senior Director and Architect at Tendril, Mike lead a team of web/industrial designers, UX researchers and product managers. Mike was a co-founder and VP of Engineering at GroundedPower, where he was responsible for technology strategy and development. Prior to joining GroundedPower, Mike was a founding member and chief engineer of the largest online behavior change, smoking cessation program in the world, QuitNet. Mike holds a Masters from NYU’s Interactive Telecommunications Program and was also a visiting researcher at Microsoft Research where he focused on pervasive gaming, lifestreaming and social gaming.
